Osseo, WI – Today, Retired Army Colonel and first time congressional candidate Steve Toft sent letters to each of the six University of Wisconsin campuses asking their chancellors to schedule a debate series with incumbent Ron Kind.
“This fall voters will head to the polls to decide who represents the 3rd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives,” said Toft. “It is vitally important to the democratic process that the voting public is well informed and prepared to make this crucial decision.”
Toft suggested that each of the 6 University of Wisconsin campuses in the district host the debates. The campuses are spread across the district in each of the population centers.
“I feel it is vitally important that the two of us engage face-to-face as often as possible to give the voters a true sense for whom they are voting,” continued Toft. “Democracy is best served when dissenting opinions are discussed in an open and civil fashion.”
Toft grew up on a farm in West Central Wisconsin, graduated from UW-Eau Claire and returned to Osseo after retirement. He lives there with his wife of 28 years Carla, together they have two grown children. His wife Carla also retired with rank of Colonel.
