Ahhh....March Madness. I love filling out brackets for the NCAA basketball tournament and entering online contests. I love picking upsets and watching the drama unfold with each and every game throughout the tourney. When a #15 seed upsets a #2 seed (and I pick it), I'm happy.
This March, there is another kind of March Madness. It's taking place in the well of the House chamber on Capitol Hill. You probably already heard the news of Speaker Pelosi proposing that she would use the "slaughter rule" - deeming the Senate version of the healthcare bill as passed even though the House did not vote on the measure.
Wall Street Journal: What Singapore can teach the White House
Wall Street Journal editorial columnist William McGurn penned a thought-provoking piece on healthcare reform. McGurn paints a thumbnail sketch of the free-market healthcare system in Singapore. Granted, Singapore is relatively small in comparison to the United States in population. But McGurn's column is a vehicle for showing what does work in Singapore can work here in the United States.
Apparently We're Just a Bunch of Dumb Red Necks...
Why else would Ron Kind distribute a press release outlining common sense rules for his upcoming listening sessions on healthcare? He apparently thinks we're a bunch of dumb red necks out here who can't be trusted to show common courtesy at the event. He is absolutely correct that we're going to be there to ask him some very tough questions and demand that he oppose this legislation when it comes up for a vote, but, he's dead wrong in his assumption that we are a bunch of rabid, wild dogs living in the wilderness.
