Strike One:
Kind backs staged financial bailout

U.S. Rep. Ron Kind says that the constituents he has heard from are split 50-50 on a proposed $700 billion financial bailout: half say "no," the other half "hell no."
He called it "a lot of justifiable anger at this point."
But Kind, a La Crosse Democrat, said Friday that a staged bailout that limits the upfront expense to taxpayers is necessary to keep capital markets working and avoid a spiral of bank failures and job losses.
"I'm not happy we have to do it, but the danger of inaction far outweighs the danger of action," Kind said.

Strike Two:
House OKs landmark climate bill

Washington — In a triumph for President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled House narrowly passed sweeping legislation Friday that calls for the nation's first limits on pollution linked to global warming and aims to usher in a new era of cleaner, yet more costly energy.
The vote was 219-212, capping months of negotiations and days of intense bargaining among Democrats. Republicans were overwhelmingly against the measure, arguing that it would destroy jobs in the midst of a recession while burdening consumers with a new tax in the form of higher energy costs. Only eight Republicans voted yes; 44 Democrats voted no.
In Wisconsin's delegation, Democratic Reps. Tammy Baldwin, Steve Kagen, Ron Kind, Gwen Moore and David Obey voted for the bill, and Republican Reps. Tom Petri, Paul Ryan and Jim Sensenbrenner voted against it.

Strike Three:
Ron Kind: I voted for stable, affordable health care
By U.S. Rep. Ron Kind / D-La Crosse | Posted: Sunday, November 15, 2009
The Affordable Health Care for America Act not only makes health care more stable and affordable for those who already have health insurance, but it also guarantees access to health insurance coverage for the uninsured and provides security for seniors, while responsibly reducing the federal deficit during the next
10 years and beyond. This is reform that is long overdue.
