Chris Muller writes: More Smoke and Mirrors from Ron Kind
The President didn't tell us anything new during his State of the Union address but if you were to read Ron Kind's press release (copied below for your convenience) you would think that our country has had a great epiphany because of the speech.
Sycophants like Ron Kind are a serious problem in Washington. They blindly follow the president's agenda without stopping to think about the very real consequences of those policies.
For example, when Ron Kind voted in favor of legislation that handed hundreds of billions of dollars to corporations who ended up declaring bankruptcy, was he casting that vote because he truly wanted to saddle our children and grandchildren with debt or simply because Obama wanted him to?
And when Ron Kind voted in favor of legislation that will put caps on the air that we exhale and impose exorbitant taxes on anyone exceeding those caps, was he casting that vote because he wanted to bankrupt the small farmers and businesses who won't be able to afford the increasing energy costs or was it because Obama wanted him to?
And when Ron Kind voted in favor of legislation that will force every individual to purchase health insurance or go to prison and gives the government total control over our health care choices, was he casting that vote because he wanted to impose more federal controls on individuals and eliminate the private sector health insurance industry or simply because Obama wanted him to?
The point is that Ron Kind is failing to represent the people of Western Wisconsin when he goes along with policies that are tearing apart our economy and our personal freedom. I have believed for several years now that Ron Kind represents Washington and not the people. He became an insider long ago and the evidence of it just continues to stack up for anyone who is paying attention.
We need someone in the House of Representatives who will look out for OUR best interests. We need Dan Kapanke in Congress.
U.S. Rep. Kind: Statement in reaction to the State of the Union address

Leah.hunter@mail.house.govWASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) made the following statement in reaction to President Obama’s first State of the Union address this evening:
“President Obama delivered his first State of the Union as this nation faces great challenges. At a time when our county is dealing with a weakened economy, continuing wars, a health care crisis, and many other stresses on American families, I am pleased that tonight he offered ideas for meeting these challenges.
“As the President stated, creating jobs must be our number one priority this year. We’ve enacted legislation to make education more affordable, provide tax credits for those hardest hit, preserve jobs, and get Americans working again. But there is still more work to be done to get our economy back on track. Our economic stability depends on smart investments to help small businesses and middle class families, green jobs and clean energy, comprehensive health care reform and a commitment to fiscal responsibility. I am pleased the President called on Congress to work together to build a sustainable, long-term foundation for our economy.
“As we focus on growing our economy we must also work to get the deficit under control. We must begin dealing with our long-term fiscal challenges and pay down the debt to ensure that future generations are not stuck with our unpaid bills. I applaud the President’s call for a freeze on discretionary, non-defense spending and the creation of a fiscal responsibility commission, based on bipartisan legislation I offered with colleagues last year. This will help us not only address unnecessary spending but reduce the deficit and improve our long-term fiscal health.”
Here is my message to Ron Kind in response to his flowery rhetoric in this press release, "Talk is cheap congressman. You have been in Congress since the mid-90's and you still don't get it. You have helped to pass policy after policy that imposes more and more government burdens on the American people and now you call for even more thinking that it will solve our problems? I believe it was Albert Einstein who once remarked that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. The answer to the nation's challenges is not more government. You already tried that and it failed miserably. The REAL answer to our problems is LESS government. Just get out of our way and watch what we can accomplish!"
