Just look at the way Senator Bunning of Kentucky is treated for daring to raise objections over the reckless spending in Washington. Ron Kind likes to brag about his support of the "PayGo" law that forces Congress to pay for things by finding cuts in other programs or increasing taxes. The bottom line, according to Ron Kind, is that the Congress must pay for things without adding to the nation’s deficit.
On its face it makes perfect sense but what Ron Kind failed to mention to the local media and to the voters of Western Wisconsin is that he and his colleagues also built in a humongous loophole that allows them to essentially pass any spending plan they want and add it to our morbidly obese deficit.
When a Republican like Bunning stands on principle against this practice then all hell breaks loose and you might think he were the anti-Christ by watching some of the media outlets. The same can be said for State Senator Dan Kapanke when he dared to make a stand against increased spending in Madison. I pray the voters will not be fooled by the smoke and mirrors that Ron Kind and his colleagues in Washington use to manipulate voters into supporting them. I thank God for people like Senator Bunning and State Senator Kapanke who have the courage to stand up and do the right thing.

This is how I recently replied to a critic of my letter:
Blink asked, "How would the poor be negatively affected, for instance, by the government "over-reaching" and offering them low-priced public health insurance?"
When people receive an entitlement they are less inspired to do the hard work necessary to earn it for themselves. They miss out on the joys of working hard for something and learning along the way to better themselves and teach their children the same lessons. Additionally, the money to pay for such entitlements must be confiscated from others who do produce and that kind of environment breeds resentment leading to an attitude of, "Why should I bother to help my neighbor when the government will take care of them anyway?" In other words, the resentment caused by government entitlements leads to selfishness and makes it far more difficult for communities to come together to solve their own problems.
Whether it is intentional or by accident, I believe that is exactly where liberals want our nation to be: a society so dependent on the federal government that we must follow their every mandate or else.
The best solution for helping people is to allow those who are close to them to give them the assistance they need while teaching them how to help themselves in the future. A helping hand from the people who love you will always be far more valuable than a handout from a cold-hearted bureaucracy but I fear our nation has forgotten this simple truth. I guess we'll find out for sure in November.
