Effects of Governor Walker's Budget Repair on County Government

Monday, November 21, 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Sunday, November 20, the La Crosse Tribune reported that Governor Walkers Budget Repair Bill cost La Crosse County $300,000. This calculation was attributed to County Administrator Steve O’Malley.

The simplest explanation is always the best explanation. As is clearly seen in the administrators report to the county board "Gross Budget Savings" from employees’ contributions to WRS (Wisconsin Retirement System) will be $2,944,434 in 2011. See Attached.

The second attachment; "Major 2012 Budget Challenges" shows State budget cuts total $1,428,000. It is therefore a matter of simple math that the impact of the Governor’s bill was a net gain of $1,516,434 for La Crosse County.

In fact these savings also helped cover "Other Revenue Losses/Reductions" which were not caused by the Governor’s Budget totaling $1,558,000.
