New Online Debate about Health Care
I got involved in another online debate regarding health care today. Here is one of the posts I submitted in reply to a liberal who was touting the government control option:
Cardinal Fang wrote, "So, when a laid-off plumber with no health insurance gets a one-million dollar bill for his stomach cancer, "caring and generous people" will be good for that million bucks?"
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: In your hypothetical situation it wouldn't take long for a person to get help from thousands of people who would donate whatever they could. Especially the plumber's own family, friends, neighbors, and church not to mention the millions of strangers who may be willing to help through the network of relationships we all have.
A single call into one of the local radio talk shows could get the entire community helping out. Think about this... how many millions did George Clooney raise for Haiti in just a single weekend?
If your vision becomes a reality and the government controls our health care, then what would happen in your same scenario?
First, the plumber would have to go to the government office and fill out all the right paperwork in order to be seen by a specialist for stomach cancer. And God forbid if the i's aren't dotted or the t's crossed properly because I have heard real horror stories about people being denied Medicare payments because of bad records. "You didn't fill out section 435(b)(i) correctly. We can't help you."
Once that three ring circus event is accomplished the plumber's application would get sent off to Washington (maybe hand delivered if he happens to be very good friends with whoever the congressman is at the time). A commission will hold a hearing to determine the plumber's situation and decide how best to handle the situation.
All while this circus act is taking place the American people are being drained with trillions in debt to pay for it all and our kids and grand kids are being born into debt. Do you really want to politicize our health care industry in that way? I sure as heck do not.
The plan being promoted by the president and Democrats would only replace private insurance mis-management with government bureaucrat mis-management. At least in the private insurance world I can still change plans to something else that meets my needs. If the government gets control of health care then I would have to change the government if I don't like it.
The real solutions are those things that Paul Ryan and Republicans have been working on: market driven, consumer focused solutions that eliminate the middle man. Google 'Paul Ryan' and you will quickly find his ideas and you might just learn something new.
UPDATE:
I just received the attached information about a CNN poll showing that only 25% of American's want Obamacare. Do not let the loud-mouthed liberals get away with lying about what the American people want.
