Applications are now being accepted for the first round of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licenses.

This was all made possible thanks to legislation that I and Rep. Tony Kurtz helped get signed into law about a year ago.

Following the application period, Wisconsin will issue its first APRN credentials in September.

I found it important to author the APRN Modernization Act because of the workforce challenges our state has been dealing with in the healthcare industry.

As a result of the new law, Wisconsin’s APRNs are now authorized to treat patients independently and without the need for a collaborative agreement with a physician – so long as the cases do not fall outside their areas of expertise. This will help lead to improved healthcare access in rural areas and lower medical bills.
