Earlier this year I wrote “Pondering the Penny” about doing away with the penny. The interest then was generated by President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency. Specifically, the major concern was that the U.S. Mint reported that it cost 3.69 cents to make each penny, Put another way, it cost close to $180 million to make 4.5 billion pennies in FY 2023! But, it wasn’t a new idea as federal legislation to do away with the penny had been introduced as early as 1990.
'Tis the season ...
For my latest "On the Job" stop, I had the pleasure of working a shift with the staff at Northern Family Farms in Merrillan.
Founded in 1955, the Jackson County family business is a premier wholesaler of nursery plants and Christmas trees. Chances are, many of the Christmas trees you'll see this December will have come from Northern Family Farms.
Apparently, losing to Senator Ron Johnson wasn't enough to send radical Mandela packing; now he's taking a run at governor.
That’s right: after Wisconsin voters soundly rejected him in 2022, Mandela Barnes still didn’t get the message.
Here’s just a taste of the extreme agenda Mandela Barnes will bring to the Governor’s mansion:
Mandela Barnes, the BIGGEST Defund the Police Democrat around, is running for Governor, Christopher! Barnes is as far Left as it gets, representing the radical fringe of the Democrat Party.
Now, this is the CRAZY Democrat who could be my opponent - He CANNOT win!
Barnes has called for defunding the police and ending cash bail. He’s on a crusade to bring CHAOS to American cities and suburbs!
Wisconsin celebrates the conclusion of the 2025 nine-day gun deer hunt which kicked off the holiday season across the state. Over the course of this period, preliminary figures show hunters registered 182,084 deer including 86,068 antlered deer and 96,016 antlerless deer. Compared to 2024, the gun season harvest is down a total of 0.8% statewide, with antlered harvest down 2.6% and antlerless harvest up 0.9%
Bow hunters have registered 294,757 deer, which is ahead by 1.1% of the harvest at this point last year.
Everyone can agree that healthcare costs are too high, and prescription drug prices are a major reason why. That is why I am happy to co-sponsor legislation written by Rep. Todd Novak (R-Dodgeville), nicknamed “Cole’s Act,” named after Cole Schmidtknecht from Appleton. Cole was 22-years-old when he went to the pharmacy for a routine pickup of his inhaler. He was shocked to learn that the price of his inhaler had increased from $66 to $539 without any prior notification. Cole decided to delay the purchase for a little bit so that he could pay his rent.
