MacIver Reacts to Budget Deal

We are far from impressed with the budget agreement Governor Evers announced today.

Apparently Republican leaders’ biggest concern was how to secure Democrat votes when principled conservatives said no. While there is plenty of spending in this budget, there is no mention of accountability.

As a result of this deal, UW bureaucrats get raises while student enrollment declines. The state's K-12 public schools get an enormous increase plus higher property taxes, and after years of spending more our kids get less actual education.

Just over a month ago I wrote that we should plan ahead concerning the 2030 Census. There have been articles written on the subject and bills have been introduced in Congress. Projections have been made what the Electoral College might look like after the next Census and redistricting. It is time to study up on the topic and make your views known.

On July 3rd, the Governor signed into law the state budget following final action from the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) and passage by both houses of the Legislature. Our final JFC action came after an agreement between the Legislature and the Governor on a number of key topics. This budget is a compromise document. It is shaped by negotiation between houses, between parties, and between branches of government.

Last night, the Assembly passed a bipartisan budget for 2025-2027 that secured major conservative wins, such as a $1.5 billion tax cut, eliminating over 300 state government positions, increasing public safety, and blocking billions of dollars in tax hikes and liberal policies proposed by Governor Evers.
The 2025-2027 budget delivers $1.5 billion in meaningful tax relief by including $695 million in retirement tax exemptions, expanding the second income tax bracket, and eliminating the sales tax on residential electricity and natural gas, saving ratepayers nearly $178 million.

H.R.1 – the One, Big, Beautiful Bill is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Americans – our seniors, veterans, families, farmers, manufacturers, and most vulnerable populations.

My Democrat colleagues have been fearmongering and pushing blatant lies from day one, and that ends now. When this beautiful bill reaches President Trump’s desk, Americans will see their taxes go down, wages go up, and integrity and stability restored in critical programs like SNAP and Medicaid.

Patriotic Conservatives Celebrate Victory on and off the Field

On a perfect summer evening in La Crosse, patriotism and America’s pastime came together as 50 conservative friends gathered to cheer the La Crosse Loggers to an 11–3 victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats. But the excitement wasn’t just on the diamond—it was also a chance to connect, collaborate on important ideas, and celebrate a major legislative triumph.

Smarter AND Harder

You’ve heard the saying 'work smarter, not harder?'

Maybe it works for some people, but not for me. I don’t think hard work has an on-off switch.

Look, I’m not a millionaire like some of the other people who are talking about running for Governor. I’m the son of a Lutheran minister and live on a farm outside West Bend. So I have to work smarter AND harder.

That’s why I need your help. We’ve tried the rich guy playbook enough. Now we need a candidate who will dig in, work hard, and EARN IT.

Re-Declare Your Independence

As Independence Day approaches my thoughts turn to the extraordinary courage of our Founding Fathers who, along with only a handful of their neighbors, chose to fight against the tyranny of an oppressive government and declared their Independence. They put their faith in God and pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to make America a free nation.

In today's modern political power structure there is an insidious effort underway to convince Americans to worship the government and place our faith there instead of where it truly belongs:
