The Last 48

Many may have watched the A&E television show The First 48 which is a documentary about homicide investigations around the United States. The shows generally show how much can be done in the first 48 hours after a homicide by detectives whose efforts are quite remarkable and almost unbelievable.

About 48 hours after this is published via email group by Coulee Conservatives the polling places will be closing for the April 7th Spring Election. That last 48 hours of the election cycle is a critical time when we – you and I – can make a “quite remarkable and almost unbelievable” effort to assure that Judge Maria S. Lazar is elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court; and that many of our other choices on the ballot are also successful.

Judge Maria S. Lazar is the clear choice for the Supreme Court if you vote for the basic American values of faith, freedom, and family. Judge Lazar is independent, impartial, and informed. Judge Lazar understands the functions of the judicial branch – to determine what the law states and to determine if the facts of the case follow the law. It really doesn’t matter what her personal thoughts are as she rules based on the written law!

Judge Lazar is Wisconsin born, raised, and educated through undergraduate studies in Wisconsin (she attended law school outside Wisconsin). Her opponent was raised and educated in California prior to her undergraduate studies at an Ivy League school on the east coast (she is a UW-Wisconsin Law School graduate).

Judge Lazar has experience in private practice, as an Assistant Wisconsin Attorney General, and was elected to the Waukesha Circuit Court before being elected to the Appeals Court. She has about twice the “bench time” as her opponent. Her opponent was an executive with Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin before being a state legislator (from Madison) for about a decade. She was then appointed by Governor Evers to the Dane County Circuit Court.

The April 7th Spring Election is nonpartisan – meaning the candidates aren’t running on a party ticket. Judge Lazar has never been a member of a political party, although she has great support from Republicans and other conservatives throughout the state. Her opponent is heavily supported by the Democrats to include a $260,000 donation from Democrat Party of Wisconsin and 55% of her top twenty donors are from outside Wisconsin. In comparison, 80% of Judge Lazar’s donors are from within Wisconsin.

I don’t care for her opponent’s already cozy relationship with most justices of the current Supreme Court to include the current Chief Justice. This is the Supreme Court that recently had two cases overturned by the United State Supreme Court as their findings apparently followed their “personal wants” and not the published law. And, for the current Chief Justice to get personally involved in this election is totally unprofessional! Further, the Chief Justice has praised the opponent’s knowledge on how to make laws; but making laws is not a function of the Supreme Court! They shouldn’t legislate from the bench!

My final comment on Judge Lazar’s opponent concerns the opponent’s use of her dog in her advertising – something like a fourth or fifth grader might try. I almost wonder if this might hide a mental defect in that candidate’s character?

Now that I have built the case for support for Maria S. Lazar for Supreme Court we need to share a bit about the “quite remarkable and almost unbelievable” efforts needed to assure Judge Lazar’s success on Election Day. I think it was Senator Johnson that talked about “ten more” meaning your vote is crucial but so are the “ten more” votes you need to get for the candidate to assure great victory.

Time is short (less than 48 hours), but there is time to make an impact! Use your e-mail list, Facebook friends, and/or other social media to spread the word. Even telephone calls help! The message is simple, "Election Day is Tuesday, Judge Lazar is best candidate for Supreme Court (with a sentence or two why), please vote and take a family member or friend with you!" Considering family, friends, neighbors, organization associates, Christmas card list, and there are probably a few more opportunities, I am certain you can reach out, find 10 more Lazar voters, and make an impact!

Get informed, get involved, and make an impact! There are other important elections too but this one is most critical! We have a state to save!

The reason this Lazar win is so important is that she will ensure we get back to the principles that made America Great.  Not voting for her hands our Constitution to the wolves and predators.  If we continue to allow people who call themselves Liberals a place on our Supreme Court, it means we no longer will have the principles that have kept us free and thriving.  We are the longest-running republic/democracy in the world, and it is easy to see our negative downward slide.
You grew up in a country with freedom, your rights were protected, and you had property and gun rights.  You could move forward, and if you had the ambition and initiative, you could do well.  We are soon to reach the place in America that only the lazy and stupid people with limited initiative and character can do well, all at the expense of the people who worked to give us this great Constitution and the people who defended our dwindling heritage.

Please vote and encourage your friends to vote; our future depends on it.
