As we celebrate Labor Day and soak up the final days of summer, I want to take a moment to highlight the hardworking individuals in the 17th Senate District who work in the trades. The work that our electricians, welders, carpenters, HVAC technicians, mechanics, plumbers, and operating engineers do is absolutely essential to moving our community and economy forward.
In an age when cynicism about politics and public service often runs high, it is both uplifting and necessary to acknowledge elected officials who go above and beyond for the people they represent. As a resident of the 70th Assembly District, I am writing to express my deep appreciation for Representative Nancy VanderMeer and her unwavering commitment to the needs and well-being of our communities.
Last month, President Trump signed the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act into law. This legislation delivers great wins for Wisconsinites including tax cuts for families, businesses, and seniors, protects and strengthens vital programs like SNAP and Medicaid, invests in our rural healthcare systems, uplifts our farmers, and secures our borders.
Key provisions of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act include:
Supporting Small and Local Businesses
The average Wisconsin taxpayer will pay $3,183 less in taxes in 2026 due to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act going into effect next year, analysis by the Tax Foundation shows.
The legislation permanently extends tax cuts first enacted in 2017 under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. It also adds deductions for tips and overtime pay, increases the standard deduction and expands the child tax credit, in addition to other changes.
The passing of Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, was announced recently. During his over 40-year ministry, Dr. Dobson’s work at Focus on the Family included establishing Focus on the Family Action, which was our national partner and is now a separate organization, Family Policy Alliance. This laid the foundation for a network of Christ-centered organizations, including Wisconsin Family Council. His legacy lives on through these ministries in 39 other states.
Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing Labor Day!
This Labor Day, we recognize the hardworking people who keep Wisconsin strong - from farmers and factory workers to teachers, nurses, local business leaders and everyone in between. Their dedication drives our communities, strengthens our economy, and makes Wisconsin a desirable place to live and raise a family. As we gather with family and friends this weekend, remember to celebrate the hard work that keeps Wisconsin moving forward.
With an annual financial impact of about $116 billion, agriculture is one of the main drivers of our state’s economy.
It is also responsible for employing approximately 354,000 people across Wisconsin – or 9.5 percent of our entire workforce.
In order to ensure the sustainability of this important industry, it is crucial that we give farmers the proper tools to protect our natural resources and the health of our families, friends and neighbors. After all, robust ecosystems are fundamental to their livelihoods and the long-term viability of food production.
The Dane County Board of Supervisors recently released a resolution making August Transgender History Month. In the one-page document, the board revealed not only their commitment to recognizing transgender individuals, but also their determination to make education “inclusive.” The resolution took an even more unsettling turn when the board concluded, in reference to transgender and non-binary youth, that, “inclusive education and access to affirming care are fundamental to their health, safety, and future.”
On Thursday, August 28th, I responded to an opportunity to go and see the Vice President of the United States when he was visiting a small industry in La Crosse. I went for patriotic reasons; things like “love of country”, respect for our elected leaders, “Making America Great Again”, and a desire to get a first-hand perspective direct from the Vice President rather than filtered and distorted by not only the media but by many public servants proclaiming to be leaders.
--- Unfortunately I have to re-post this again because Democrats and some weak-kneed Republicans refuse to follow my advice and our nation is now suffering through another violent tragedy - This time in Minneapolis ---
--- This was first published on August 10, 2019 - I am simply re-posting it word-for-word due to recent events in Madison - Will anyone finally listen? ---
