Republicans Faithfully Praying for America
It may seem political discourse is dominated by anger and personal attacks but go beyond the headlines. It is refreshing to be part of a political movement that still openly recognizes the importance of faith, gratitude, and prayer.
Recently, Republicans from across Wisconsin gathered for the GOP State Convention. In addition to discussing candidates, policies, and the future of our state, attendees participated in a prayer breakfast that reminded us of something larger than politics itself. It was an opportunity to pause, reflect, and seek wisdom before engaging in the important work of self-government.
This was not an isolated event. Prayer breakfasts are a longstanding tradition within Republican organizations at the local, state, and national levels. They provide a chance for elected officials, candidates, volunteers, and citizens to come together in humility and recognize that leadership requires God's assistance.
Throughout our 250 years as a nation, American history is filled with examples of leaders who understood the importance of prayer. From George Washington kneeling with troops at Valley Forge to presidents calling the nation to prayer during times of crisis, faith is woven into the fabric of American public life.
Whether one agrees with Republican policies or not, it should be encouraging to everyone that this organization is willing to create space for reflection, gratitude, and moral accountability. In a culture that often encourages us to shout past one another, gathering first in prayer is a reminder that wisdom, civility, and service to others is at the heart.
