Democrat political tricks keep coming

I had hoped the government shutdown would be resolved for the millions of Americans who rely on it to run smoothly, but the political tricks keep coming.

As Telegram readers know, the House passed a clean, bipartisan budget bill way back on September 19th, yet Senate Democrats have refused to act – voting a spooky thirteen times to keep the government closed.

Underly’s Surrogates Blame Gaps in State Law for DPI’s Failures

There was a lot of blame shifting and responsibility dodging at the Assembly’s informational hearing on sexual grooming in Wisconsin’s public schools. DPI claims their hands are tied without a law change. The MacIver Institute begs to differ.

As the head of DPI, Superintendent Jill Underly has the power to make policy and process changes. Also, DPI doesn’t even need legislative approval to write new administrative rules anymore. If only Underly had shown up to explain her inaction.

Why AG Josh Kaul Should Be Running Scared of Eric Toney 2.0

Eric Toney 2.0 should keep Josh Kaul up at night.

Toney, the Fond du Lac County DA, narrowly lost to Kaul last time around by only 35,000 votes, but there have been changes since that time. Toney was always an AG candidate out of central casting: A prosecutor, an elected District Attorney, a long-distance runner, a rule-of-law and law-and-order guy who earned the support of sheriffs and DAs throughout the state.

Hop in!

It's been a thrill to be back on the campaign trail!

I've had an incredible experience on the road over the last week, attending roundtables, town halls, and meeting with so many people who want big change in Wisconsin.

What's eating at me is WHY people are so eager for change. And it's because they feel like they're no longer safe. Communities that used to keep their doors unlocked at night are now plagued by fentanyl addiction and a rise in crime.

The paradox of a political party wholly invested in growing the social welfare state but refusing to open the government to feed impoverished Wisconsinites ought to be getting more attention, Angela Rachidi says.

“Democrats put themselves in the situation we’re in, and it’s non-winnable,” says Rachidi, a researcher who has written extensively about FoodShare and SNAP at the American Enterprise Institute and the Badger Institute.

“A lot of households are going to be affected in a major way. We should be very concerned about it.”

A Day in the Parks

On October 20, 2025, I did something that I have never done before as a legislator. I visited all eight state parks in the 17th Senate District in one day. With fall colors at their peak and fall crispness in the air, it was the perfect time to take a drive through each county I represent and experience the incredible natural beauty of our region.

Recently, on behalf of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations I, as chairman of the committee, joined Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) for a press conference regarding the release of 197 subpoenas issued by Special Counsel Jack Smith as part of a case against President Trump.
